I was born in the West Riding of Yorkshire, but have lived for many years in North Lincolnshire. I graduated in 1980 with a first in Graphic Design and subsequently worked in London. I returned North and began a freelance design practice whilst initially teaching part-time in Hull. As a Head of School I actively promoted the teaching of print and was fortunate to work with some skilled practitioners who encouraged me to rekindle my own practice.
I now work from a small studio in my home and focus primarily on lino printing, using a Hawthorne Etching press. I have successfully submitted and sold work in open exhibitions including the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull. I currently sell at the Ropewalk Gallery in Barton on Humber and Blossom Street Gallery in York.
On a trip to Hong Kong I stumbled upon the food market which inspired my ‘Five Fish’ print. As a result I have sought out other food markets across Spain and Italy and developed further works from these visits. I find much beauty in how the produce is displayed for sale.
